a few thoughts from the art students themselves...
"I had so much fun! This class freed me up to try things I never would have even considered–working with vivid colors was so up-lifting. The class was challenging and stimulating at the same time. It's so good to get out and do something unfamiliar." –Kathy Scales, retired mental health counselor, Memphis prison system and police department, (pictured left) (Abstract Art class: Fauvism, Henri Matisse)
In looking back on my progress with my art, I learned that you have to plan what you are going to paint... I did some pictures in the past by just starting without any thoughts of what I was going to do. Now I find myself thinking of just exactly what I plan to do. My results are much more pleasing to me. I have surprised myself. I really can paint better now. –Mary C Williams
What fun we had!! I've continued to paint frequently and am still loving it. I press on fearlessly always loving the 'what if...' moment and learning from it. It is a joy to me. You have awakened the artist eyes in me- colors are more vivid, details are more alive. Thank you for your guidance. –Marcia
I experience an ah ha moment whenever I finish a piece and it turns out not so bad. I think of how you taught us to mix colors, Sarah, and how to tone down primary colors with their complimentary color, how to balance a composition, how you can create depth by moving darker colors to the foreground, and most importantly, how to turn down the self-criticism and just enjoy the process. So, thanks, Ms. Nowlin! –David
