ABSTRACT ART
During abstract art classes, we experience the joy of creating art in the style of artists like Van Gogh, Miro, Matisse, Kandinsky, Monet and more. Students study the styles of abstract artists and use these observations as a jumping point in which to create their own piece. It helps to have some initial guidance, especially for those who are beginning to paint. Many students find these classes a delightful break from realism and trying to make something look exactly as we might see them. We get to use our imagination and try out the ideals and expressions of other artists. I teach in an interactive way, making art myself while students engage in the process. Most classes enjoy music while we create. Everyone gets into the groove. Supplies used for classes are all water based paints including acrylic, watercolor or gouache and sometimes other mediums in the case of collage or 3-d art.
AH HA MOMENT: I recently saw an article on a rediscovered long-lost Kandinsky and when I looked at it I went "Ah ha! That does look like a Kandinsky!" I felt like an educated person. –Abstract art class student
